Nurse Practitioner

Sharon Young is a certified nurse practitioner at Cardiac Care. Sharon says she chose nursing as her profession in order to make a difference in a sometimes impersonal world.
Before joining Cardiac Care in 1999, Sharon worked for 13 years in the Verde Valley Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit. She has also been a nurse practitioner at the Cardiovascular Institute at Scripps Memorial Hospital, San Diego; the Stanford University Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Palo Alto, Calif.; and St. John Hospital and Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit, Detroit.
She received her family nurse practitioner certification from Arizona State University and her acute care nurse practitioner certification by exam. Prior to her certifications, she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
She has been a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses since 1973. She also belongs to Sigma Theta Tau – Rho Chapter, an honor society for nursing.
Originally from Michigan and later California, Sharon moved to the Verde Valley in 1986 to assist her elderly parents and enjoy the outdoors and relaxing lifestyle. In Sharon’s free time she enjoys hiking with her dogs, working in the yard, reading and exercising.
Sharon’s favorite heart-healthy food is any green salad with nuts and vinaigrette dressing.
