Renal Artery CT Angiogram

A renal artery CT angiogram is performed to evaluate the renal arteries.  The renal arteries extend from the abdominal aorta and supply the kidneys with blood.  The purpose of a renal CT angiogram is to evaluate if there is disease in the renal arteries, which is usually created by atherosclerosis.  If the renal arteries become narrowed or blocked, there may be significant damage to the kidneys. If disease is present, you may be a candidate for an interventional procedure or surgery before an adverse outcome occurs.
